Take A Break! =) Back From Thailand!</title><content type='html'>&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Wow! &lt;/span&gt;It is amazing how you can get &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;recharged&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;physically&lt;/span&gt; and &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;emotionally&lt;/span&gt; by just giving yourself&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;a break&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am back from Thailand, Bangkok. It was the&lt;br /&gt;second trip there within a month, first time was&lt;br /&gt;with my family and the most recent with my buddies&lt;br /&gt;family.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Personally, I feel that it is a &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;MUST&lt;/span&gt; for you to &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;give&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;yourself a break&lt;/span&gt; because you have worked hard&lt;br /&gt;and you should &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;reward yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;I believe you have annual leave or if you are self&lt;br /&gt;employed and you are the boss, you have the flexibility&lt;br /&gt;to choose when you want to take a break.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the self help motivation tips that I would&lt;br /&gt;like to place an emphasis is to &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;reward yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Celebrate &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;your achievements&lt;/span&gt; each step of&lt;br /&gt;the way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You do not have to go overseas if it is not your liking,&lt;br /&gt;just simply take time out to do what you really like.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It could be catching a movie, meeting up with old buddies,&lt;br /&gt;collecting stamps, listening to a cd, going on top of a hill to&lt;br /&gt;breathe in the fresh and crisp air etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just do something that you will feel totally relaxed or&lt;br /&gt;it &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;makes you happy.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For me, whenever I am down or stress up, I like to just&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; close&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;my eyes and visualize whats there to become and listening to&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;soothing music.&lt;/span&gt; At the end of it, I will feel motivated to get back&lt;br /&gt;to complete the task and I will feel more at ease with myself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can call it your &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;coping mechanism&lt;/span&gt; or&lt;br /&gt;I would prefer to term it as a &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;self help&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;motivation tip&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As you are reading these, think about the activities, or places&lt;br /&gt;or even people that will make you feel happy to be around with.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Even at this moment when you are at ease with yourself,&lt;br /&gt;you can do these activities to &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;make yourself awesome!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Thailand&lt;/span&gt; has been great in burning the calories with&lt;br /&gt;its blazing sun and heat and intense walking from the&lt;br /&gt;shopping sprees =)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That's about it for now, a quick recap for you...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Celebrate! You may be cutting yourself, biting your&lt;br /&gt;nails till it bleed?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Be it self harming mildly or in a more extreme way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;I know that you are in pain.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And your pain is more extreme then the harm that you&lt;br /&gt;are doing to yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am not going to be your usual counsellor to say that self&lt;br /&gt;harming is bad and you should stop it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well on hindsight it is, but...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If I am going to say that, you would want to&lt;br /&gt;do it even more right?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I believe its &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;your defence mechanism&lt;/span&gt; in play.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Today, i would like to share with you a few defence&lt;br /&gt;mechanism which you can explored.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Talk to a trusted friend.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;It helps for some people when they can unleash&lt;br /&gt;their anger. As a trusted friend, just be there.&lt;br /&gt;Lend them your ears, your shoulders.&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;2. Crying it out. Crying is a form of therapy in itself. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have a child in each one of us, I am a firm believer of&lt;br /&gt;that. Society made crying for adults a taboo BUT you know&lt;br /&gt;just how good it can feel to let it out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;3. Write a letter to yourself. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This may sound crazy but it works for me when I am down&lt;br /&gt;and out. Write a letter address to yourself and just talk to yourself&lt;br /&gt;and figure a way out to help yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And guess what you can do after venting all your frustrations&lt;br /&gt;on the paper?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;THROW IT INTO THE BIN!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Yes! THROW your problem away! &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Give it a shot, even though it will not magically just&lt;br /&gt;solve your challenges, it can relieve a considerable amount&lt;br /&gt;of emotional load for you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;4. "known to self" + "known to others"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Meaning what you and other people know about you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; 2. "know to self" + "not known to others"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;These are all the secrets that only you know.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; 3. "not known to self" + "not known to others"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is your latent abilities that have not been&lt;br /&gt;realised yet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; 4.&lt;/span&gt; And I would like to draw you to this final quadrant about&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; "not known to self" + "known to others"&lt;/span&gt;. It&lt;br /&gt;was that bad. Serious.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The incidences that happened subsequently helped me&lt;br /&gt;to raise my self esteem and confidence level one step&lt;br /&gt;at a time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1) Working part time at a market research company&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was the holiday period and my friends wanted to earn&lt;br /&gt;some extra spare cash and so they got me along. Little&lt;br /&gt;did I know part of the job scope if to pick up the phone&lt;br /&gt;to call and to conduct surveys.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You bet it was jittery the first few encounters, I would&lt;br /&gt;literally feel the shiver within my voice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However as the days go by, it just came naturally to&lt;br /&gt;pick up the phone to call and conduct the surveys.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ever since, after this short stinct at the market&lt;br /&gt;research company, ordering pizza is a breeze =)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;2) That's over the phone, like you, I have all the &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;butterflies in the world felt deep within my guts &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;when it comes to presentation. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You may be taught to treat your audiences as trees&lt;br /&gt;or just look over their heads and just treat as if&lt;br /&gt;you are talking to yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Physiologically, my legs just goes soft by itself&lt;br /&gt;when it is my turn to speak and present. Can you&lt;br /&gt;feel that?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your legs are weak and you have to manage your tone&lt;br /&gt;of voice because they seem to jingle together.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Anyway THIS WAS THE BREAKTHROUGH...&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&gt;&gt; I approached the President during a medical congress&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What a coincidence, I was working part time to raise&lt;br /&gt;funds for a charitable organisation by selling calling&lt;br /&gt;cards. We were told that the President was going to drop&lt;br /&gt;by our booth.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We were preparing and were anticipating his arrival when&lt;br /&gt;he did a U turn to the reception area and miss our booth&lt;br /&gt;totally.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Confession over here, I did not know what got into me&lt;br /&gt;but I mustered my courage to go near to the reception&lt;br /&gt;area, obviously I was stopped by his guards and the&lt;br /&gt;event organisers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And then I took out my notepad and wrote a short note&lt;br /&gt;that I am representing this charitable foundation to&lt;br /&gt;raise funds and would like him to take a look at it.&lt;br /&gt;Call me naive or whatever.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was rejected first by the even organiser. BUT i was&lt;br /&gt;adamant  and told the event organiser to pass it to his&lt;br /&gt;personal assistant. I am glad that at least he did me a&lt;br /&gt;favour by passing the note to him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then this uniformed personnel came out and say that he&lt;br /&gt;will stop the President for me when he is leaving the&lt;br /&gt;reception in a moments time and suggested I should take&lt;br /&gt;a photograph with me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;That moment was it.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A gush of elevated confidence and self esteem filled in&lt;br /&gt;every cell that was present in my body. I walked up to the&lt;br /&gt;President, presented the calling card to him and I did not&lt;br /&gt;have a camera with him, but the flashes kept coming from&lt;br /&gt;event photographers and the National Archives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Even though I have to purchase the photographs from the event&lt;br /&gt;organisers and National Archives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That was the day that I breakthrough. It was the new benchmark&lt;br /&gt;that I set for myself that resonate within me till now.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Whenever I hesitate to approach somebody, I will tall myself&lt;br /&gt;this, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;"If I have the courage to approch the President, who is &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;XXX to stop me, I can do this!"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What I want to share with you is this, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;step out of your comfort &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;zone&lt;/span&gt;,&lt;br /&gt;do something really crazy, approaching the President is&lt;br /&gt;a really mad thing to do for me at that time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;More importantly, you need to&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; find a way to set the new &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;benchmark&lt;br /&gt;for yourself to breakthrough.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Wow! because most are funny, and like the old saying that goes, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;"Laughter is the best medicine."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I especially like what the cartoon dog is saying,&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;"Apply the ideas to life."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Whatever ideas you have right now running through your mind are precious and you should apply as many as you can into your life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Even a simple idea of&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; blog.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A little bit of who I am and why I created this blog:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hi! My name is &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;JY&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Chia&lt;/span&gt; and I live in sunny Singapore. I am&lt;br /&gt;a full time undergraduate at National University of Singapore&lt;br /&gt;and I have a passion to share what I know.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Helping my friends and family during down times and making&lt;br /&gt;them smile again has always been my top priority. Wendy&lt;/span&gt;                                                                              &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A christmas card that I just recieved from a buddy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am not some motivational guru that you see on stage sharing with&lt;br /&gt;you motivational teachings, although I would aspire to do so, I am&lt;br /&gt;actually quite shy in front of a crowd even though close buddies and&lt;br /&gt;family will say the opposite. Just say that I am more comfortable with&lt;br /&gt;them and I am stepping out of my comfort zone one step at a time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I would prefer to be coming from the stand point of a friend, sharing with&lt;br /&gt;you my personal take instead of generalized principles. The principles&lt;br /&gt;taught are  awesome but it is not personalized enough.
